What is Home Health Care?


Home Health Care is an arrangement for providing health care and personal services at home. Home Health care can include Skilled Nursing Care, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy to help one regain their prior level of functioning after an illness or injury. Home Health Aides can also be provided to help the patient meet daily living needs.

Who provides Home Health Care services?


Home Health Care agencies provide care through the services of nurses, therapists, social workers, home health aides, and home medical equipment suppliers.


How can one arrange for Home Health Care?


The following steps should be taken if one needs Home Health Care:

  1. Consult your health-care provider or primary physician.
  2. Ask your primary care provider if you qualify for home health care 
  3. Choose an agency that meets your needs, and
  4. Arrange for an assessment.

Who pays for Home Health Care?


Home health care services may be covered by Medicare or private insurance. Patient may also rceive services on a private pay basis. For example, assistance by home health aides with activities of daily living may be obtained for an hourly fee.


What are Advance Directives?


Advance Directives are legal documents that specify the kind of care one wants if he or she is unable to state his or her wishes due to illness or injury.


What is Hospice Care?


Hospice Care helps people with terminal illnesses and their love ones. Medicare coverage for hospice care is broader than for regular home health care. Many home health-care agencies offer hospice care as a separate program.
